 Join Luna Ray for a unique yin class with live music.  Luna will guide a Somatic informed yin yoga class that will leave you feeling grounded and settled in body and mind, and open in the heart.  During this class, she will share a variety of original songs and songs from different traditions to lullaby you to stillness.

Saturday, January 10 – Sunday, January 12 – Intro to Somatics

  Yoga and Somatic practices overlap as they both give access to release energy from the body and regulate the nervous system. Through this Somatic Yoga Weekend, you will explore somatic informed yoga practices which gives access to more information, capacity, and possibility for deep healing and freedom.  Somatic Practices, and understanding the power of your nervous systems can deeply and positively inform your yoga practice from the inside out.   There will be a simple asana practice in this session.

In this Somatic Informed Yoga Weekend, you can expect:

 -Lectures and discussion 

-Introduction to somatic experiencing, somatic psychology and the Soma (body)

-Understanding trauma and the neurobiology of trauma

-Somatic self-awareness practices

-Introduction to the polyvagal theory and pathways of connection

-3 main nervous system states and how to begin to recognize them

-Somatic informed yoga principles and methodology

-Somatic informed languaging in a yoga class

-Ways to subtly integrate somatic awareness into your own practice, life and while teaching a class.

-Live music and chanting

Somatic Experiencing TM (SE) was developed by Peter Levine, Ph.D. to help people heal and thrive.  It is a gentle, and effective approach to healing trauma, and finding more freedom. SE uses the “felt sense” (learning to feel body sensations) to explore where energy may be constricted, and even “stuck”  in the body. This can be acute trauma, (i.e. car accident), chronic trauma (i.e. body pain), developmental trauma (i.e. childhood challenges), or intergenerational trauma ( i.e. trauma carried through your ancestral lineage).  Trauma here is defined as an emotional state where the nervous system is too overwhelmed to complete a healthy flight, flight or freeze cycle.  Instead of the energy dispersing from the body, it gets stored in the body, and can affect the brain, organs, and emotions.  This constricted energy in the body shapes the way one experiences themselves, and the world.  Over time, this can cause chronic pain, anxiety, depression, challenges in relationships, digestion, hormonal, or immune system weaknesses, and more.
