As someone who has struggled with life long anxiety, I knew that I had to find a better way to deal with it besides taking prescription meds to numb the feelings I was dealing with on a regular basis. So, I decided to read and study about natural ways to deal with depression, PTSD, anxiety, and other unhealthy addictions that so many people struggle with. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that we all have the power within to heal ourselves through proper nutrition, breathing, stretching, and developing new and better thought patterns.
I went back to school and got a degree through the Global College of Natural Medicine in holistic health, herbs, and nutrition. I opened an office, “Optimum Health Consultants” in Dayton in January of 2014. My mission at that time was to work with individuals on getting healthy from a holistic standpoint as well as offer wellness programs to businesses. Even though a little over a year later, I had to close the doors… I still found ways to offer services to churches, community groups, and people of lower income who did not have the resources to pay for a nutritionist. Over the years I have extended my knowledge through yoga, meditation, and different forms of mindfulness. I received a Reiki level 2 certification, aromatherapy certification as well as became a certified yoga instructor.
I have volunteered for DayBreak- a shelter for homeless youth, Homefull- a residency for people getting acclimated to living on their own after some tough misfortunes, West Dayton Strong- an organization that works with youth living in Desoto Bass who have little to no resources for healthy living, the Heartfulness Meditation Center- teaching yoga as a free service to anyone interested in learning about meditation/mindfulness and yoga, Miami Valley Life Alliance-an organization that strives to alleviate poverty through holistic living, volunteering for a nonprofit called ,Spectrum New Beginnings’- an organization that focuses on bringing yoga to Veterans, underprivileged schools, and people struggling with addictions as well as overcoming the trauma of abuse. I also teaching yoga at ‘Indigo Yoga Studio’ in Beavercreek.
I have a passion for helping others find natural and healthy ways to deal with PTSD, stress, anxiety, depression, anger, and so many other emotions that often times get locked inside of our bodies causing serious health conditions such as heart attacks and cancer. The class I will be offering is called Yin Yoga. It is a slow meditative yoga that focuses on slow stretches, getting deep into the fascia, joints, tendons, and even the bones. It is not a class that will make you sweat as you do crazy hard poses, but it is a class that will teach you to be still. Focus on where your body needs to heal and ways to release tension and anxiety through breathing, stretching, and being mindful. A popular saying is “the issues are stored in the tissues”. And this yoga class and education will be based on the premise that you can heal yourself through awareness and proper movement.
