Embodied Anatomy & Yoga Therapeutics Workshop with Becky Morrissey, E-RYT500, C-IAYT, EMBODIYoga500 | February 18th

January 14 & February 18th, 2018

Yoga’s approach to understanding the body is the result of an intersection of philosophies and disciplines. Physical, functional, therapeutic, experiential, and embodied lenses of the yoga body provide a variety of views and languages for practice and teaching.

Join us to explore the embryological origins of our anatomical structure, how our movements are initiated and achieved, and how yoga therapeutically interacts with the container and contents of the body.

Sunday, January 14, 2018 11:30-2:30 pm

Bones and Ligaments of the Spine: Stability
Explore the foundations of our stability, the Skeletal Body. The embryology of our bones provides a pathway for understanding alignment in static postures and within dynamic movements. The ligaments of the spine will be explored, giving context for therapeutically addressing lumbar and sacroiliac mobility in yoga practices.

Sunday, January 14, 2018 3-6 pm

Fascia and Joints: Interconnectivity
Explore the horizontal and vertical fascial lines of the body in movement and stillness. The embryology of our fascia is fascinating network of body wisdom from which to explore the mobility of the joints in yoga postures. Along with considering the more commonly studied joints, such as the knees, hips, and shoulders, we will explore the costovertebrals, the Temporomandibular joint, and the sphenoidbasilar joint, which is often viewed as the key joint in the body.

Sunday, February 18, 2018 11:30-2:30 pm

The Organ Body System: Mobile Fluid Support
The organs are the contents within the skeletal and muscular container. They support postural tone, give volume, and awareness of sensation in movement. The organs gives us a sense of self, supporting our movements from within. This workshop will explore the inner world of our organs, their embryology, how they are integral to movement, and how to use their presence to facilitate therapeutic yoga practices.

Sunday, February 18th, 2018 3-6pm

The Endocrine Body System: Sensitive Chaos
Mysterious and powerful, the Endocrine Body is pure experience. Yoga movement via the Endocrine Body allows us to experience movement via fresh pathways of support and sensation. Therapeutically, the glands offer a place of beginnings for introducing nourishment and peace to the body. Join us to explore the endocrine glands and glandular bodies (there may be a few you are not familiar with), discovering them as source of energetic sensation, movement, and embodied presence.
